January 02, 2015: Mr. Ravindra Kumar Srivastava, a 1984 Jharkhand Cadre IAS Officer, took over as Chairman, Airports Authority of India today. Before taking over as Chairman of AAI, he has been Principal Secretary to the Govt of Jharkhand in the Deptt. of Planning & Development and Energy after reverting from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India where he was looking after the desk of J & K Affairs as Joint Secretary.
Mr. Srivastava Immediately after taking over the charge, took a review meeting with the Board Members. He emphasized the need to project the AAI as a customer friendly organization. AAI as an organization should be proactive in gauzing the changing trends, expectations and demands of all the stake holders such as the passengers, airlines, different service providers, cargo handlers, media and security agencies. Those handling the cargo in AAI need to be more aggressive to capture their share of market from the present level of 2% by reducing the dwell time and by increasing the interaction with the players of this sector. He further emphasized to enhance the non-traffic revenue by adopting the best global practices in commercial exploitation of assets of the organization and the terminal area and city side of the Airports. This is achievable if we follow the emerging trends of developing the infrastructure by monetization of immoveable assets and lands which are now being followed by other ministries like DIPP and Urban Development in the Govt of India.
The organization should take pride in its logo and strive towards bringing laurel by expanding its turf in the emerging space of new demands of the air connectivity across the country and in other developing countries by developing the existing infrastructure and improving the image by providing better service particularly in the field of hygiene and customer care. There is an ample scope of leveraging the funds, capacity & managerial experience of the private sector and technology from the market for future expansion program of AAI and to live with the expectation of the Government. The expansion of the work and the people’s appreciation for the good work done by our colleagues at different airports will generate a real ‘feel good factor’. We must work towards strengthening the capacity development program of each sector and collaborate with the best Management and Technical Institutes for enriching the contents and capacity of our different Training Institutes for the skill development of our employees.
In his address, he also touched upon the measures to be taken for expenditure control, bringing discipline, introduction of technology driven system particularly in the security apparatus. He highlighted the importance of wearing the uniform at work place and display the name badge. It should be enforced with immediate effect. At the end, he encouraged participative management within the organization as well as by involving all the stakeholders at various levels and complimented the Members for good work done by them so far”.
Mr. Srivastava, always a Gold Medalist in academics, has a Master’s Degree in Physics from Benares Hindu University, an M. Phil. in Physics from Delhi University and also holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi.
Along with him, he brings over 30 years of varied administrative experience in the field of Land Revenue Management, District Administration, Marketing, Health & Family Welfare, Public and Institutional Finance, Power, Planning & Development, Prison Reform, Disaster Management, Labor and Employment, Urban Development and Consumer Affairs besides looking after the desk of J & K Affairs in MHA, Govt of India.
Mr. Srivastava’s erudition and administrative acumen, multilateral experience and multi-faceted training will be the wind beneath the wings of AAI for scaling new heights at this critical juncture as it takes on major infrastructural expansion projects, makes the operational environment and Air Navigation Services even more safe and secure and goes full throttle in its commitment to provide safe, comfortable, neat & clean airports that will take the country’s image to the next level.
