MTU Maintenance, global market leader in customized aero engine solutions, broke ground today on an over 10,000m² extension at its facility in Hannover, Germany. An additional 7,700m² of production space as well as 2,200m² of office space are being created and will take the site's total facility size to over 110,000m². The extension is expected to create 200 new jobs for the facility, and is slated to come online in late 2028.

"At MTU Aero Engines, we are prepared for growth in a strong and positive industry environment," says Dr. Johannes Bussmann, CEO MTU Aero Engines. "We are investing at all our facilities, in Germany and around the world, to ensure we meet international demand for cutting-edge aero engine technology as well as our customers' and partners' maintenance, repair and overhaul requirements for decades to come."

The new space represents an investment of over 100 million euros (partly supported by the Wirtschaftsförderungs-Gesellschaft Langenhagen Flughafen mbH). It will increase site capacity by over 20 percent. This will be used predominantly for in-demand widebody engine shop visits and module repair, such as the GEnx and in future the GE9X turbine center frames. Furthermore, space generated in thein the existing facility will be used and optimized for key engine repairs.

"MTU Maintenance Hannover was the birthplace of MRO for MTU and it has continually grown and developed over the past decades," adds Jaap Beijer, Executive Vice President MRO Operations at MTU and Managing Director of the Hannover site. "This new expansion is not just a building, it complements our existing expertise and ensures our key role within MTU's maintenance network now and in the future. We are committed to the region, our workforce and our customers."

With the foundation of a maintenance facility in Hannover in 1979, MTU Aero Engines entered into the MRO business. Since then, its MRO arm, MTU Maintenance, has continually grown and expanded its network to become the world's second largest engine MRO provider by shop visit volume. MTU Maintenance has over 30 engine types in its portfolio, a workforce of over 7,500 employees, and offers customers the broadest range of engine services globally. The site in Hannover is a 100% subsidiary of MTU Aero Engines and responsible for MRO for widebody and narrowbody engines such as CF6-80C2, GE90-110/-115B and GEnx TCF from GE, as well as the PW1100G-JM by Pratt & Whitney. It also services the V2500 engine from IAE International. Furthermore, it is MTU's center of competence for high-tech repairs and also carries out additional services such as on-site events and engine teardowns.
